WILLY (Michael Wilson)


Founder of AMOKURA Coaching | Strength & Conditioning Coach | Community Advocate


Hi, I’m Willy—coach, dad, and someone who knows firsthand how powerful movement can be in transforming lives. I’ve spent over two decades in elite sport, both as a player and a coach, but the heart of my work has always been the same: helping people move better, feel stronger, and live healthier—physically and mentally.


My journey started right here at Silverdale United Rugby & Sports Club, where I went from local footy to representing North Harbour, and eventually competing overseas with professional rugby teams in Italy and France. Rugby gave me a second chance in life. It taught me resilience, respect, and what it means to truly back yourself. Those lessons are now the foundation of every training session I run at AMOKURA.


Since retiring from professional sport, I’ve run two fitness businesses, coached youth and adult athletes, and worked with everyone from beginners to seasoned pros. I’ve also poured my energy into the community—mentoring at-risk youth, coaching junior rugby, and helping the next generation grow stronger in sport and life.


When I’m not in the gym, I’m with my wife Debby (a proud French-Kiwi hybrid!) and our two girls, living the active lifestyle we coach. Whether we’re at the beach, the rugby field, or just out for a walk, fitness is our way of connecting and staying grounded.
